Amish With A Twist II: The Classics is the material being used for 2018. These quilt blocks (105" square) draws inspiration for both the block designs and color palette from quilts that are considered to be quintessentially Amish by quilt lovers and collectors.
Nancy's “twist” is the innovative Night and Day block, which she designed especially for this project to reinforce basic strip-piecing skills and to introduce the “Fast Flying Geese” construction technique. Designed as a BOM project with 29 of Marcus Fabrics’ Centennial Solids, the project takes a workshop approach to recreating eleven traditional quilt blocks arranged in a Barn Raising setting.New members always welcome. Come and explore the world of modern quilting! Characteristics of modern quilting include the use of bold colors and prints, high contrast and graphic areas of solid color, improvisational piecing, minimalism, expansive negative space, and alternate grid work. “Modern traditionalism,” or the updating of classic quilt designs, is also often seen in modern quilting. The club is currently using the book The Quilt Block Cookbook by Amy Gibson for the rest of 2017, which uses the idea of updating classic quilt designs. The author has some interesting ideas for settings of sampler blocks. The book is recommended, but we can work on other common blocks for the remainder of this year as well. Bring your ideas and your imagination!
